I spent months digging into the guts of this series, thinking I understood the stakes. But as I watched the footage from Nicollet Avenue, the truth hit me: we aren’t dealing with a series of tragic mistakes. We are dealing with a balance sheet. When you fix the incentives, the tragedies stop. However, when the tragedies are the very things keeping the industry alive, nobody at the top is looking for a cure.
I realized as I finished this segment that I’ve barely scratched the surface of the rot. Because here is the part they don’t want you to see:
