America didn’t fall behind the rest of the developed world by accident. We built a machine that produces this outcome on purpose, and neither party has ever had much interest in turning it off.
America stands in the world today that.. as a place where you can come to start a business and pay no taxes... and where if your household income exceeds $250,000 a year.. you can still have a good life.. if not, America is among some of the worst developed countries on Earth.
I have always wondered why the Federal government doesn't take the initiative and bring together the best minds in medicine, pharmaceuticals, and hospital operations and ask them to come up with a way to provide universal healthcare for the US. If this were to happen you would find that the Pharmaceutical reps would try and justify this exorbitant pricing based on all the research cost they have to recover, the doctors would say there weren't enough doctors and the hospital operators would say the costs of diagnostic machines, tests and staff are to high to cut their costs any further. Essentially, each wold go to their own corner and defend their inefficient turf. The conglomerate hospital owners would get all in a huff and say the government can't tell them what to do as will the pharmaceutical giants. The doctors would simply sit back, unable to get a word in edgewise.
My answer would be to get healthcare professionals running the systems in Canada, the UK, Japan, Australia, Germany, France, and Brazil together and try and determine how they do it. Then see what it would take to pattern the US in a similar, if not more efficient way to do what these other countries do. This means burying the US Medical ego. Politicians will be reluctant to take this on, not because it would be universally unpopular, quite the opposite, but because it would take a long time to implement and they might not get credit for fixing the system. Me first, everybody else later.
True story… My sister was getting her Social Security retirement and her deceased husbands Social Security.
She’s been receiving his retirement for over a year now. Her retirement income is minimal. I won’t share her personal finance numbers, but it’s minimal.
When she began getting Her late husbands Security Security . She was then able to not only live from week to weeks but she had what she needed.
Before getting the extreme income, especially during winters, it was stuff with the cost of Heating fuel.
OK, so this week she received notice from Social Security administration that they are going to deduct X amount of dollars from her total monthly income.
How the fuck can they do that?
Her deceased husband paid into Social Security all his working life. So basically….And why I see it, They’re stealing that money from from every citizen.
Am I missing something here?
Is our system so screwed up and greedy that they can legally do this?
You're so right.. The problem isn’t that America chose a different model. The problem is what that model does to the people who aren’t at the top of it, and how consistently both parties decline to fix the parts that are fixable
Healthcare shouldn’t bee a business—it should be a Civil Right. Don’t ya just hate John Calvin and Martin Luther? I sure as HELL do….”Piers The Plowman” by William Langland (Medieval Literature) would be a good place to start.

Our healthcare system needs a serious overhaul.
