America restricted mifepristone access without banning abortion. It built monoculture boardrooms and called it merit. It levies an invisible tax on caregiving, then calls the gap “preference.” This is the pattern — and the countries that rejected it are the ones Americans romanticize. Here’s why homogeneous power keeps failing.
Why can’t the public understand this? Although progress has been made, it still is a man’s world. Birth mortality for women especially women of color is truly disgusting and we do nothing about it
It's not just maternal mortality, so this is not just about women and anyone who happens to care about them. The U.S. health care "situation" - I refuse to call it a "system" although it is a system - one that delivers poor health outcomes while robbing us of lots of our money produces poor outcomes for our society as a whole. It's easy to document this fact on the net:
"Here’s why: Among 10 high-income nations, the United States spends the most on health care and, for that money, gets the worst health outcomes. Also, Americans die four years earlier than their counterparts in those other countries, according to the report from the Commonwealth Fund."
When did women take control of all us Healthcare? As a journalist I feel like I would have heard about that. Do they run the hospitals, the ama, the doctor's lobby, big Pharma for the insurance companies?
Thank you, Teresa! It was bsolutely my pleasure to provide info on this.
We rank 85th on this issue as a country. Whenever you see that, you can hand assure that you're going to find a lot of evidence telling you that you could do better.
.
I learned a lot on writing something I suspected was true before I started researching...
Yes I have been a scientist for over 50 years- felt, heard and experienced all of the issues you discussed. Thank you for putting them in such an organized structure. I hope you don’t mind if I share your writing with others. Also including Tupac. His song about his mother is one of my favorites.
Teresa . Not only doing my mind, I encourage you to do that. The subscribers to my publication at the soul of my Publications purpose because it's through their feedback and conversations that we together decide the direction that we move once this platform is large enough.
I started this publication in October but didn't start marketing it until late April and have went from 200 subscribers to being #36 on Substack's Rising Best Seller List in Culture.
I think we're going to have a real voice... sooner than I expected. Have my most recent posts in my 20 most popular links on this homepage for substack👇 https://uncomfortable.rxansmithmedia.com
I also think women naturally tend to drive societies toward equality. We women seem more likely than men to want our societies designed around care, family support, education, work-life balance, and social trust. Nordic countries do tend to have a broader acceptance of taxation and also strong unions. I suppose it could be argued those systems, too, have been shaped by women.
You're onto something real, and there's data behind it. CAWP and Pew polling consistently show women lean more supportive than men on healthcare spending, gun regulation, and social safety nets... the actual building blocks of the "Nordic model." So yes, I'd bet those systems have been shaped by generations of women pulling on every lever they had access to.
But here's the wrinkle a couple of readers pointed out to me, and it changed how I read our own 85th-place ranking: the IPU's own data shows that when countries jump in representation... Rwanda, Bolivia, Ecuador...bit's not because the culture suddenly discovered equality. It's because they wrote a quota into the rules. Chambers with quotas average 31% women. Chambers without them average 23%. That's not nature. That's mechanism.
Which is why the African-country comparison sticks with me. I know of one where women are treated brutally by every formal measure, and they're still the ones keeping the lights on every time a dictator gets deposed or shot. The official chart and the actual machinery are two different documents. America has a version of that same gap... we're 85th on the visible seats, but the visible seats were never the full record of who's actually running things.
None of that is an argument for picking a side by quota. I've got a friend whose dad used to lose his mind when white players got benched for better Black ones — on a team that was still winning. I asked him what he was even mad about. He never had an answer, because identity loyalty doesn't need one... nobody's mailing him a membership card for it.
We're not 85th because we lack the talent. We're 85th because we keep drafting from the bench we're comfortable with.
THANK YOU for the Tupac Shakur song!! First time I’d ever heard one of his songs—blew me away!! I was completely ignorant about the power of his lyrics, his respect for women, and the motivational aspect of his art. It literally changed me.
Can’t wait to download more. Now I understand the deep, deep mourning of his early death.
Your article was phenomenal. Structure, institutions, social trust, diversity. It’s NOT just gender. Love the research you pulled in (I’m an academic).
Wow. Thank you so much. One of the best things I’ve read on Substack. Will share. Subscribe.
Thank you for saying something about that. I'm a good music fan and because when I was raised there's a lot of hip hop songs that I know didn't get the attention they would today because you'd have to be a real fan to know the lyrics. So I'm thinking about incorporating them into my writing and this was the first time I tried it.
This was a guy that had so many bad - Mostly false - reputations going on, that no one would ever learn his mother was a black panther and feminist who put these things into his head at a young age that made him a very amazing man… so I wanted to slide that in there.....
I'm so glad you enjoyed it… he will mostly go down in history as a gangster rapper that got shot in the street in his 20’s… He was so much more. Fiercely intelligent and destiny for greatness at birth. His life story is fascinating.
"Justice Samuel Alito issued a one-week administrative stay on May 4th, restoring access until May 11th while the Supreme Court considers the emergency appeal. One week. Mark it."
Wow! I haven't read or heard this essential bit of info anywhere else so thank you for it. The MSM has told us that the USSCT stayed the ruling of the 5th Circuit but not that the stay lasts only 1 week. One week. Unreal.
They play tricks like this all the time. First trick is making it a ruling that doesn't even use the word abortion... Second trick is issuing emergency stay that sounds like it's a good thing, the third trick is making it only last one week.
Also its being shown in real time that countries, companies, etc that allow women inordinate control and power without demonstrating they are capable of it are destroying everything
I think this goes too far in the opposite direction..... Some of the worst institutional failures of the last several decades, financial collapses, disastrous wars, corruption scandals, corporate greed, political dysfunction, were overwhelmingly led by men. I’m skeptical that society’s problems are caused by “too many women in power.”
Like I point out in my article, the countries with the conditions that Americans most admire are the Nordic countries where women in leadership is the norm.
And let me reiterate, as I said in the article... Bad leadership exists across both sexes.
The issue is competence, incentives, accountability, & whether systems are selecting for wisdom/capability or for ideology, optics, narcissism, tribal loyalty.
That’s part of what the article was trying to examine. Not gender supremacy in either direction, but structural dysfunction in how leadership gets cultivated and rewarded.
Modern Western Society is fucking ass backwards retarded because of women being given the reins of power. Yes there are societies that dont give women any kind of say and treat them like objects, cattle, etc. Things to be used and then disposed of when their usefulness is depleted. Western Society is not doing this, what we're doing is allowing people from these countries, societies, cultures to migrate to our countries, take over our societies, and control our cultures. We're allowing fucking leeches, criminals and savages from shithole countries who have no regard or respect for us to come in, do whatever the fuck they want, and fuck up and destroy everything that we've built over generations. Modern Western Women are primarily the one's responsible for this although weak and stupid men are complicit. Modern Western Women whine and bitch about how evil and dangerous men are, primarily Straight White Men then do retarded bullshit like advocate for mass immigration on humanitarian grounds. Then when crimes like theft, robbery, rape, and murder skyrocket and are primarily committed by male foreign Invaders or men of color even if they're native born citizens. Then these dumbass cunts refuse to punish the offenders no matter how heinous their crimes are, no matter how many times they have offended or are likely to reoffend in the future because of their status as undocumented immigrants, people of color, etc; after all DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH! NO IT'S FUCKING NOT! THE DIVERSITY THEY ADVOCATE IS A FUCKING GODDAMN CANCER! They'll insist on showing unbelievably retarded compassion and mercy to the worst offenders simply because they tick the right DEI Boxes but will throw the book at Straight White Men for looking at them in a way they don't like; saying something they dont approve of, etc. Fuck Modern Western Women!
Yes there are societies that don’t allow women positions of power, influence, etc many of these societies also dont even treat their women like human beings, instead treating them as objects, cattle, etc things that can be used and disposed of when no longer useful. But Western Society is not doing this, what we're doing is allowing people from these societies to migrate into ours and letting them fuck up and destroy everything that our ancestors built. Women are primarily the ones responsible for this bullshit; although weak and stupid men are also complicit. Women are the ones complaining about how dangerous men especially are, especially straight white men, but then they turn around and do retarded bullshit like letting Arab and African Invaders who go around robbing, raping, and murdering people and then because they're fucking dumbass cunts they refuse to punish these offenders; meanwhile they'll throw the book at straight white men for even looking at them the wrong way, saying something they dont like, etc fuck modern western women!
Pfff! Please! The Problem isn't that women are being excluded from leadership; the problem is they're being given leadership positions and special privileges simply because of their sex
I actually agree that nobody should be handed leadership positions purely because of sex, race, or identity categories. Merit and competence have to matter or institutions eventually collapse under performative decision-making.
But I also think people sometimes overcorrect and assume every conversation about barriers facing women is automatically advocating quotas or unqualified leadership.
Women earn the majority of college degrees in the U.S. and have for years. My argument wasn’t “promote women because they’re women.” It was that there are clearly qualified women in the pipeline, and systems should be structured to identify and develop the best leadership talent without old cultural assumptions or ideological box-checking distorting the process either way.
Women are outperforming men in going to and graduating from college and university; women are also outperforming men in getting high paying jobs and while men are still the majority in Executive Boardrooms more women are being promoted to those positions than men. Also women dominate professions like HR. They dont have Executive Control over companies but they have a lot of soft power and influence.
Women are outperforming men in just about every conceivable metric but are still whining and bitching about how its a man's world and they have to live in it. Women aren't being left behind in Modern Western Society; Men are! Especially the younger men! The older men dont care because they already got theirs!
Also Im reading your article, denying women access to abortion is a good thing and long overdue. For too long women have had absolute say over what happens to their children and have absolute disregard for the input of their child's or children's father. Men dont get a say about what happens to their unborn children; the mother of their child or children can kill them anytime she fucking likes and society will applaud them for it. Meanwhile he's expected to provide her and his children with financial support whether he actually wants to have children and be a father or not. If a man abandons the mother of his child or children he's reviled as a scoundrel; but if she kills their children she's hero worshipped as doing what is best for her. How the fuck is that fair?
Peter... There are legitimate concerns in your comment:
- failed assimilation in some areas
-/inconsistent enforcement of laws
- selective identity politics (which I rage against all the time)
- rising distrust in institutions
- some people feel afraid to speak honestly about immigration or crime trends.
But this argument falls apart when you turn ENTIRE GROUPS into collective villains.... That is never the case.
Women didn't singlehandedly create globalization, weak borders, corporate outsourcing, housing crises, broken criminal justice systems, or cultural fragmentation. As a matter of fact.. I can show you statistics that show this was much more a result of Male politicians, corporations, billionaires, voters, and institutions.
Immigrants are not even a real issue. I did a post on immigration that shows that both sides fight over it and neither of them to improve anything that they've said. Including that they commit crimes at a different rate look at the Texas study which is the only one to actually service ... Some commit crimes. Some build businesses... Some work essential jobs, pay taxes, and contribute enormously. Reality is mixed, not tribal propaganda. That's weak thinking man.
You can criticize bad immigration policy, DEI excesses, selective prosecution, or cultural hypocrisy without blaming all women, minorities, or foreigners for society’s problems. You need to be able to bring statistics into that and have your argument hold up against them and I have no problem doing that but there's no statistics that support these things. Once the argument becomes “women are the problem” or “diversity is cancer,” it stops being serious analysis and becomes scapegoating.
A functioning society requires accountability, standards, assimilation, equal treatment under the law, and honest discussion. It does not require collective hatred....
I just made a post yesterday that showed the four reasons Democrats lost the election were the issues in the primary, the overuse of identity politics, Gaslighting economic issues , and ignoring the white working class. All of that I can prove is true based on looking at the voters that voted one way in one year in a different way in 2024. But now you are talking right now he's blaming people that that right we fear-mongering media has told you to blame.
You're right they didn't create globalization and all the problems that come with it; evil men did that, and its been a long time coming, but modern women are more likely than men to side with this nonsense. Will all of them do this? No but a bunch of them will, and it doesn't even have to be a majority. A minority that is radically committed is enough to destroy a nation
Oh please. You earned it and you continue to earn it and i need to do even more to... Not only speak to women... but listen. Why mansplain, when I can proactively listen instead. It's something we're missing in USA. When I research this... along with talking to people like you... and listening to sexual assault survivors. I realize there's an enormous world I don't know that's out there... and it's disappointing... I want to do my part to do better, because just because I'm "not one of the bad guys" isn't good enough. Wait until you see the comments my readers will give. They will vehemently disagree i'm sure.
I have more faith in your followers to understand and give you positive feedback. I think most men fail to understand what violence Is…Almost like a disconnect-emotional,physical violence against women just isn’t talked about much. There are women who sometimes have no concept of a man’s violent acts against women, as the women will blame their sister for certain “actions “ - blaming the victim is a sad result of poor judgement. But I’m curious to hear reactions. 🙏🏻
Why can’t the public understand this? Although progress has been made, it still is a man’s world. Birth mortality for women especially women of color is truly disgusting and we do nothing about it

https://healthjournalism.org/blog/2024/09/report-u-s-spends-the-most-on-health-but-outcomes-are-among-the-worst/
So women took control of all of US healthcare and blamed outcomes on men. Perfect.
When did women take control of all us Healthcare? As a journalist I feel like I would have heard about that. Do they run the hospitals, the ama, the doctor's lobby, big Pharma for the insurance companies?
Thank you for this wealth of information. I concur.
