Once upon a time, journalism was about finding truth, not feeding tribes. But somewhere between the O.J. trial and the TikTok era, outrage became the product. Cable news learned to sell fear, social media turned headlines into hashtags, and “breaking news” became code for “profitable chaos.” The left built echo chambers of moral superiority, the right built echo chambers of patriotic paranoia—and both convinced their audiences that curiosity was betrayal.
We’ve reached a point where people don’t want to learn, they want to win. The stories that should unite us—corruption, censorship, inequality, surveillance, crumbling institutions—now just get filtered through partisan templates. Real truth-seekers get called extremists because honesty doesn’t trend, and lies with a logo do.
