The clarity with which you connect “growth” to criminal justice reform really stands out. It nudged me to think about how much real progress depends on whether we are willing to look directly at the systems we usually keep at arm’s length.

Egos and profits are at risk but so is comfort. Few, if any, of the people who support "law and order " politicians are connected to the criminal justice system. They don't believe the stats about crime dropping. They don't follow the logic of treatment and education over incarceration. Someone who usually looks and 'thinks ' like them confirms fears that have lived in their families for generations.

Probably the best way to challenge the 'copaganda' mindset is exposure. But they're convinced they know what's happening. They're convinced that people in the system are bad people who are not to be associated with. They're convinced that they're not affected by any of this.

This is so true. And whenever I hear Law and Order politician, I take it about a seriously as I hear a politician telling me that small businesses are the backbone of this country. Or that they love this country. Or that they're going to fight for me. It's very hard to remove all of the financial incentives and the Justice system, combined with the actual overload and impossible situation that public defenders and police officers and busy courtroom judges have to deal with, but the other part is that no one campaigns on this and nobody's going to deliver a promise or a solution they didn't campaign on. They have a hard enough time delivering 10% of what they do campaign on. Everybody that's caught up in this web is somehow damned if they do and damned if they don't

@Anne Crowe - that is one of the 25 episodes I wrote in my series and it was the most disturbing.

The prison thing, yeah, it's has failed all over the world. Someone needs to Do something about it.

“A prison that doesn’t rehabilitate is a crime factory. A prison that does rehabilitate is a public safety engine. “ this line is exactly what I’ve needed to read!

Yes, the system is so huge I find myself distracted from one corrupt part of the rust to another that is crumbling beneath my feet constantly! People do not want to know what the problem is. They want to complain about “politics” without understanding the nuances. It is not R v. D…it is so much more!
