I want to start by reminding everyone that any movement toward peace—even temporary—is good news. But in today’s America, we’re so addicted to division that we can’t even celebrate a ceasefire without arguing over who gets credit.

If you despise Trump, brace yourself: you might have to admit it—he didn’t cause this conflict, he didn’t prolong it, and he’s been trying to broker peace in the region since his first term, back when we mocked him for putting his son-in-law in charge of Middle East diplomacy. Yet there he was today—one of only two Americans present—helping close a deal no one else could. Maybe it’s time to compromise enough to admit the “broken clock” just hit noon.
