If thinking becomes optional, effort becomes optional, and civilizations built on optional effort don’t stay civilizations for long."
Except in my observation human civilization has been into a technology arms race where ever fewer bad actors have bigger guns or small buttons to push by which to intimidate and control ever more people. And the chains are no longer physical to hold us in cages but by our own minds.
If I now have your attention can we back a newsletter or two of yours and focus more directly why in our socalled democracy the few keep "leading" the many?

You're so right that the pronoun gets slippery right there. I open that section with "we" meaning the country…. all of us… then a few lines later I'm still saying "we" but ….in my scattered brain.
. I've actually shifted into talking about what corporations and the people making buyback decisions did. I guess it's a smaller "we” acting like the bigger one. but it wasn't deliberate… So I could be deep rather just sloppy…. but… I don't think it's exactly wrong now that i explain.
Plenty of us did vote for the cheap stuff and reward that shareholder value logic with our own spending…. I hear you… it blurs who's actually on the hook for what, and that's worth me being tighter about next time instead of letting "we" do double duty.
On the bigger thing, yeah, I'm with you completely. The chains not being physical anymore, that's basically the whole ballgame at this point. A body can walk away from a factory. It's a lot harder to walk away from something that's rewired how you think before you even notice it happened.
The pitch is a good one and it's exactly my lane, mechanism over mascots, why does the structure keep producing "the few lead the many" even inside something that's supposed to prevent that by design. I don't want to promise you a date, because I want to actually build that argument properly instead of ranting my way through it, but it's going on the list for real.

That's what I mean when I tell people that this is our community for teaching learning discussing and debating and you really do have a highly intelligent subscriber base here that can take my rants and turn them into completed thoughts and hopefully plans of action or at least advice

Like ever more of us us on the Maslow pyramid scale are getting ever closer to chasing our own tales instead of asking the tough questions you are asking. I just can't fathom how much you push out in so little time.

Appreciate that, genuinely. And you're onto something with the Maslow point, I think that's a big chunk of why "mechanism over mascots" is such a hard sell most days.
Chasing your own tail is exhausting enough without also being asked to sit with a structural question that doesn't have a villain at the end of it… its so much easier (and more satisfying) to just pick a jersey… And to be clear , i've picked both jerseys over the past twenty years and been certain that I was in the smart one half of the population both times. Then I said that sentence out loud… and I stopped being so obtuse.
No promises on timing with the midterms breathing down our necks, but the oligarchy piece is genuinely on the list… and you pushing on it twice now is part of why it's moving up it…. I'll try to make sure it's in a side of the August schedule.
I didn't forget you. The wife wanted to remodel the kitchen and I have been moved to a corner in the basement where I can barely stand i've underestimated the underlying stress that this causes. Lol
